Developing your people is a major priority for the success of your business. Unfortunately, what should be priority often gets tossed aside and replaced with day to day routine and mundane tasks. Everyone wants to expand revenue, profits and opportunity but you cannot do this without taking your team next level, expanding their knowledge and increasing opportunity for their success. Here are 7 steps to take your team next level!
01- Treat knowledge as power. You are selling something. Knowledge, merchandise, etc. You should have systems and trainings set up so that your team is learning consistently. Knowledge gives your people power to freely roam their process and relationship with clients. Make it fun. Make it impactful. Make it matter.
02- Use responsibility as currency. High performers want more responsibility. They always rise to the occasion. Not only does expanding responsibility allow you to focus more on the work that needs done, it also empowers your people to raise their standard of performance. Expand responsibility and watch your people rise to the occasion.
03- Give clarity of expectation. No one functions well in doubt. The less definition and clarity you give your team, the less you can expect of their performance. They must know the why, when, how and what of their job and projects. This clarity should be repeated in a variety of ways on multiple platforms. The clearer your expectation, the greater your team will perform.
04- Specifically define roles. I should be able to walk into your business and ask any employee not only what they do but also what each teammate does and they should be able to tell me. Every teammate must know what they are expected to do as well as the role of every other teammate. There should be no questions asked when it comes to roles.
05- Crush your role play game. You are selling something. Role playing, practicing, brings about mastery of the process. Role playing will empower your team to know exactly what to do no matter the problem they face. Mastering your talent brings about confidence which takes you next level.
06- Always be Recruiting. Too many leaders settle. Settling always catches up to you. Always be looking for your next hire. You may not be seeking to replace someone but you should always be seeking to add greatness to your team. Great people want great teammates. Never fear recruiting or hiring added talent.
